Answers to the Most Common Questions

What are the advantages of permanent cosmetics?
Permanent cosmetics are perfect for the busy person who has little time to apply conventional makeup, for the athlete who wants to look natural, or for those with oily skin whose makeup seems to disappear after a short time. Anyone allergic to conventional makeup or anyone with limited hand movement, poor eyesight, or contact lenses may benefit from the application of permanent cosmetics.

Can I use conventional cosmetics over my permanent makeup?
Because permanent cosmetics are applied in the skin and conventional cosmetics are applied on the skin, any conventional makeup applied will somewhat cover the permanent cosmetics temporarily.

Is dermapigmentation (cosmetic tattooing) permanent?
Although this is considered to be a permanent process, a slight amount of "fading" may occur throughout the years, and a "maintenance” application may be necessary. The color and/or style may be altered slightly by an experienced practitioner.

Who applies the permanent makeup?
Our highly skilled dermapigmentation specialists (permanent makeup technicians) with years of experience will be applying your make-up. Enhancing the clients natural beauty is our goal.  We will be glad to assist you in deciding what colors and styles are best for you.

Which procedures are the most popular?
Younger clients usually begin with eyeliner or lip tinting, while others may choose eyebrows or lip liner. The cheek color (blusher) and eye shadow are popular with everyone. We recommend starting with the procedure that is most important to you.

************************

How much time does each procedure take?
Each procedure takes approximately an hour to complete. Many clients have a procedure applied during their lunch hour and immediately go back to work!

************************

Is there a risk of infection following the procedure?
Anytime the skin is broken, there is a risk of infection. Following the procedure, proper care should be taken of the treated area. Keeping it clean and medicated for a few days until healing is complete is essential.

************************

Should precautions be taken before the lip procedures?
If you've ever had a fever blister, we suggest you ask your physician for a prescription for an antiviral medication to take prior to having your lips pigmented.

************************

Is there any discomfort involved?
Because of the delicate areas we enhance, you may experience some discomfort. The use of a topical anesthetic considerably reduces any discomfort. This anesthetic, combined with a relaxing atmosphere, is most beneficial. Taking ibuprofen prior to the procedure helps reduce any discomfort and/or swelling.

What about sterilization and sanitation?
The staff at Advanced Cosmetic Techniques follows the Centers for Disease Control recommendations for sterilization and sanitation. Please be assured that your health and safety are of utmost importance to us.

************************

Can this technique be used for anything else?
Dermapigmentation is beneficial for those with hair loss (as in alopecia areata and trichotillomania). Pigmentation can be applied to the nipple/areola area after breast reconstruction following mastectomy. Also, persons with skin discolorations such as vitiligo, birthmarks, etc. can be treated.

Could I talk to others with permanent make-up?
We urge you to talk to persons who have had the procedure(s) in which you are interested. We will gladly supply a list of references upon request.
